Natural Lacquer
Heaven & Earth

We use natural urushi lacquer, harvested from the sap of lacquer trees—the same source used for imperial treasures and sacred artifacts.

Each gourd follows ancient methods: triple steaming and boiling to set the color, then five layers of clear lacquer outside and three layers of base coat inside. Each layer must dry in a humidity-controlled room for fifteen days or more—no rushing, no shortcuts.

The finished piece is waterproof, heat-resistant, and naturally antibacterial. Its luster deepens with time—beauty that only years can bestow.

Week 1-2

Selection · Hollowing

Hand-selected natural gourds, examined for shape and wall thickness. Seeds and pulp carefully removed by hand, one by one, with patience.

Week 2-4

Steaming · Boiling

Ancient coloring method: three rounds of steaming, three rounds of boiling. Natural plant dyes create earth tones, perfectly harmonious.

Week 4-12

Lacquering · Drying

Five layers of clear lacquer outside, three layers of base coat inside. Each layer dries in the humidity room for fifteen days—nature's kiln, time's craft.

Week 12-16

Polishing · Finishing

Hand-polished to reveal the lacquer's depth and warmth. Smooth as jade, with a luster that only time can give.
